2nd March 2015

We are pleased to announce that Pete Stirling, Stirling’s Energy Business Manager, has been selected as a finalist to take part in a “Dragon’s Den” style workshop hosted by Veolia, at Resource 2015. Veolia, the UK’s leading environmental solutions provider, invited innovators, designers and businesses with the unique opportunity to pitch their ideas for improved and more circular materials management. Interested parties were asked to supply a 500 word pitch by the 18th February and the selected ideas have now been notified. Pete will be presenting Stirling’s AWEAR technology in the “Den”. AWEAR is a component condition monitoring system that helps mechanical recycling facilities run in a more efficient and productive way. The AWEAR project is one of six that has been selected to appear before the panel of judges, led by Veolia’s Technical Director, Richard Kirkman.

Commenting on the six shortlisted projects, Richard Kirkman said: “We are delighted by the variety and level of innovation represented in the shortlist. The development of the circular economy will be dependent upon innovators who have the vision to improve the way we manage our valuable resources and find ways to build more sustainable products and business models. We look forward to hearing the finalists pitch at Resource and are excited about partnering with the winning project to support its development.”

The Veolia Innovation Den: Ideas to close the loop workshop will be taking place on the 4th March, between 14:30 – 16:30 in workshop room 1. The selected pitchers will have 5 minutes to present their projects and will not be allowed to use PowerPoint presentations. Veolia is however encouraging more creative pitching using props and mock ups. The panel will then have five minutes to ask questions. When all the presentations have been completed there will be a 20 minute deliberation session during which the audience can vote on their favourite idea. Finally, the panel will announce who they are interested in working with as part of a new partnership.

On his selection, Pete Stirling commented: “Stirling are delighted to be selected to pitch in the Innovation Den and I’m looking forward to engaging the Veolia team on this exciting technology”

This will be Stirling’s second visit to the annual Resource event. Resource is a three day congress and exhibition that brings together circular economy exponents. The exhibition which is being held at the London Excel between 3rd-5th March, attracts around 11,000 professionals from businesses large and small to connect, share learning and explore opportunities to be circular and resource efficient.
