Stirling is delighted to announce the successful delivery of all design drawings and documents to customer Hanwha for the Korean Light Civil Helicopter Tail Rotor Actuator. Awarded the contract in 2016 January, Stirling were given full responsibility for the design of the tail rotor actuator and faced challenges that included the restriction of a limited space envelope with demanding performance and environmental requirements, while focusing on reducing mass, increasing service life, improving reliability and including the latest valve, bearing and sealing technology.
In addition to the design of the tail rotor actuator, Stirling also provided technical support to the local design team on the main rotor actuator. The work was undertaken with joint integrated project teams, both in the UK and South Korea. Commenting on the working relationship between both companies, Hanwha’s Aerospace Business Team Manager said: “I appreciate the dedicated support of Stirling Dynamics, we could succeed the difficult development through their good technology and experience. I expect it will be the first step of a long relationship between Hanwha and Stirling Dynamics.”
On the successful delivery of the design materials for two flight control actuators, Stirling’s Aerospace Technical Services Business Manager Bandula Pathinayake commented that: “This project was a fantastic collaborative effort by both the Stirling and Hanwha teams, who have worked seamlessly together and delivered a first-class design”.
