On Monday 16th August, six Stirling Dynamics employees took part in a volunteering event with our Charity of the Year, FareShare South West. FareShare South West helps to tackle food poverty issues in the South West by redistributing surplus food to over 150 charities, schools, and community groups.
FareShare South West is currently offering corporate volunteering opportunities to help them get food to children and families in Bristol this summer. In 2019, their holiday programme delivered enough food for 70,000 meals – and this summer they are hoping to go even further to stop children in the South West from going hungry, working together with Bristol City Council and frontline charities such as Feeding Bristol.
As part of our Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) policy, Stirling Dynamics has a volunteering hours pot, which employees can apply to use for any volunteering opportunity that supports our CSR activities in three key areas: STEM, Local Community and the Environment. Having signed up for a corporate slot, our volunteers travelled to the FareShare South West warehouse by Ashton Gate Stadium and helped the charity by packing up pallets of food ready to be distributed that week.
Stirling Dynamics’ Financial Controller, Wayne Lee, was one of the six volunteers that took part in the half-day event and found the experience really valuable, stating: “It’s great that Stirling is supporting such an important charity and was good to see their work in person and help out a little. I would recommend anyone who has the capacity, to get involved if they can. Without volunteers, the charity would not be able to have the impact it does”. Production Assistant, Tina Hartridge, furthered this, commenting: “It was great to have the time and encouragement from the company to benefit the local community.”
FareShare South West is a great cause that we are proud to support, and we look forward to continuing to work with them throughout the rest of 2021.
