Development of an optimised propeller shaft design
Our customer required support for the design of a large marine propeller and shaft line for a new fleet of naval vessels. This project required...
Our client was conducting a technology demonstrator programme to design a towed buoy and required a modelling and simulation partner to support its evaluation of the buoy performance in a number of mission-critical scenarios. Our capabilities in submarine hydrodynamics, CFD and towed-body modelling provided the ideal solution for this activity.
To support the project, we had to undertake several complex activities, such as the generation of a common test environment (including a cable model and a ‘virtual test tank’), model build of various design concepts, validation of the models against available physical test data, and analysis and comparison of the various designs against the end-customer requirements.
